GRAPHIC DESIGN
connECt
This first series is from an advertising campaign I did for The Bridge Church in Eau Claire, WI. The goal of the event was to connect people with each other and with God, so I named it (appropriately) connECt, with the EC capitalized to emphasis Eau Claire. I used a flattened three-dimensional perspective to convey depth and simplicity, and I used a unified font and palette to convey the connectedness of the event.
God Questions
This is a trailer for a church series entitled "God Questions." It was shot, edited, and produced in Eau Claire by myself (director, editing), David Hurd (producer), and Joshua Hurd (cinematography)
BEOWULF: THE DRAGON
"The mighty Beowulf has returned home. Crowned as king, he rules for many years over the Geat people. Then, unbeknownst to him, a peasant arouses the ire of a powerful dragon. The wyrm wreaks his revenge by marauding and mangling Beowulf’s country. The aging king sallies forth to meet this threat, and a final fight determines the doom decreed for the dragon and Beowulf."
This is a trailer that I created for Scene & Hurd Productions. I wrote the script, hand-drew the art, animated the art, wrote, performed, and record the music, and brought in a voice actor (Jared Bebe) to provide the voice of Beowulf. It turned out great!

Other Graphic Design
Here are a few selections of work I have done for various projects around Eau Claire and for myself personally.
User interface design
My personal design manifesto regarding software is this:
If something looks bad, no one will want to use it
If something looks bad, it probably works bad
So I always put in a lot of time when I'm designing applications, all the way from the user interface to the actual code of the application. Steve Jobs learned from his father (and I then learned from him...indirectly of course) to care about the things unseen in a design. No one will ever see my code that is using the application, but it matters to me, because it makes me a better programmer, and it'll almost always lend itself to creating a better application.
Following are some designs from my major application, developed for the Department of Education Studies at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire, that were started almost six months prior to the first line of code written. You can see how the design started out on paper, and how it was finally implemented with some (unfinished!) screenshots.

I have a lot more to say about this application, which became GUARDIAN. If you're interested, please check out the GUARDIAN page in the top row of links, or just click here.
